Are you ready to schedule your summer-time move? The warmer weather, longer days, increased home sales, and time off from work and school make the summer the peak moving season. Before you schedule your move, take a look at the best (and worst) days of the summer to choose.

The Best Summer Days of the Week to Move

In general, the best days of the week to schedule a move are Monday through Thursday. While these weekdays aren't always the top choice for everyone who needs to move, they are typically the easiest days to schedule an appointment with a moving contractor. This can give you the freedom to choose the week you want to move.

A mid-week move is also ideal for anyone who is on a tight timeline or if you waited until the last minute to schedule a moving service. An increased number of moves during the summer months may mean your last-minute weekend move is a no-go. If the mover is completely booked through the fall, ask about a Monday through Thursday option.

The Best Summer Days of the Month to Move

Again, summer moves aren't always easy to schedule — especially if you want to book a moving service after the peak season has already started. Along with the best days of the week to move, you also need to consider the time of the month.

Like mid-week moves, mid-month moves are also typically easier to schedule. Think about popular lease and rental schedules. Many leases start at the beginning of the month and end on the last day. This makes the first and last few days of each month busier for professional movers. If you want more freedom to schedule your summer move, you may need to choose a day in the second or third weeks of the month.

The Worst Summer Holidays to Move

You already know the weekends, beginning of the month, and end of the month are the busiest times of the peak moving season. Now that you've ruled out these days, what other times should you watch out for?

Whether you're on a strict schedule or you just want to reduce move-related stress, you need to know all the days to avoid. Along with weekends and the beginning and end of the month days, stay away from holiday and near-holiday times. Even though you may have time off from work for Memorial Day, July Fourth, or Labor Day, these holiday days are not the best times of the summer to move.

You aren't the only person who has these summer holidays off from work. It's likely that many other people who need to move are also on vacation for these days too. This could potentially make these days popular picks. Even if you can schedule a July third or day before Memorial Day move, you may not want to.

If you have holiday party plans, family coming to visit, or a trip to take out of town, you may want to wait until the holiday is over to move. Not only do you have plenty of other things on your mind during the days leading up to the holiday, it's likely you won't have the time to carefully prep and pack your entire home and move from point A to point B.

Beyond the ability to easily book a move and the time you'll have leftover to devote to this major life transition, a summer-time holiday professional moving service isn't always possible. Most moving contractors (like other businesses) close on major holidays. If your contractor of choice doesn't work on holidays, you've already eliminated Memorial Day, July Fourth, and Labor Day from the potential options.

Given the difficulty (or impossibility) of planning and booking a summer holiday move, the post-holiday days are often some of the best times to schedule this service. While you may not want to move immediately after a holiday, the following day is a realistic possibility. If you're already on a work or school vacation, you won't need to take off extra days. You'll also have the holiday time (and the day after) to rest, recharge, and get ready for your move.

The Worst Summer Days of the Season to Move

What other non-holiday days should you avoid? Ideally, you would book your moving service weeks or months ahead of time. But this doesn't always happen. If you need to move quickly, review the seven or 14-day weather forecast before you book an appointment with a contractor. Avoid excessively hot or stormy days.

Hot, humid, or wild weather can put you, your family, the movers, and your belongings at risk. While the weather won't always follow the forecast, the potential projections to provide one way to choose a moving day out of several different options.

Before the TCJA, moving expenses could be deducted if the move was related to starting a new job and met certain distance and time requirements. However, this deduction is now suspended for tax years 2018 through 2025 for most taxpayers. If you are a member of the military, you may still be able to deduct moving expenses. Here are the conditions under which moving expenses are deductible: 1. **Member of the Armed Forces**: You must be an active-duty member of the Armed Forces. 2. **Move due to Military Order**: The move must be due to a military order and a permanent change of station. If you believe you qualify for this deduction, it's a good idea to consult IRS Publication 521, "Moving Expenses," or speak with a tax professional to ensure you meet all the necessary requirements.
